How do red threads develop ("red tip") and what can be done about them?

From a distance, the affected areas look like brown spots. But if you look more closely, you can see small red threads, which is the so-called "Red-tippedness":

This phenomenon is caused by a weak fungus called Laetisaria fuciformis which settles when the nutrient supply of an otherwise dense lawn is insufficient. It often uses the lawn thatch as an intermediate host;

You can combat this weak fungus by treating the lawn with Turbogreen slow-release lawn fertilizer / spring lawn fertilizer (dosage 20 g/m²). After fertilizing, the "red tip" will grow out and is then removed by mowing. As a preventative measure, you can also use our Turbogreen lawn aerator This decomposes the lawn thatch and deprives the fungus of its basis of life. However, lawn thatch decomposition is a lengthy process. The lawn should also be fertilized regularly, every eight weeks.

Further information on our fertilizer subscription, which makes regular fertilizing easier, can be found here.
